The Headlines:

In the role of Research & Development (R&D) Associate Packaging Engineer I , working in Milwaukee, WI, you will work within the Packaging Innovation R&D team alongside cross-functional partners to build-out packaging solutions which enhance consumer experiences, improve portfolio sustainability, and/or optimize material costs.

This position reports to a Sr. R&D Packaging Manager and works closely many internal partners including Marketing, Project Management, Procurement, Technical Insights, Beverage R&D, Quality, Technical Services, and our Brewery teams.

The Responsibilities:

  • Innovation Research : Stay up with the latest industry news and trends and apply knowledge to our business.

  • Technology Scouting

  • Competitive Research

  • Consumer Research

  • Ideation and Design Thinking : Leverage knowledge of trends, consumer empathy, and technical depth along with cross functional collaboration to identify and present packaging solutions.

  • Prototyping: Use digital modeling, 3D printing, cutting table, or other tools to communicate ideas for new technologies or designs to stakeholders and partners.

  • Consumer Testing : Work with Insights team to develop testing plans and create stimuli to help spark conversation and feedback.

  • Package Test Plans (PTP): Creating and execute plans to test the robustness of new structures and decoration or coating technologies and begin qualification for future deployment.

  • Package Lab Testing, including Test Method development as necessary

  • Brewery Line Trials

  • Supplier Collaboration: Brief suppliers on new technology and/or design needs, vet, test, and provide feedback on solutions/technologies.

  • Cross-functional Communication : Frame potential solutions for cross functional stakeholders and bring along stakeholders at decision points, milestones, and challenge points.

  • Documentation : Follow processes for project-related documentation as needed including specifications, test plans, etc.

The Other Qualifications:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering Mechanics OR equivalent experience.

  • You have 3+ years of experience in packaging or associated consumer goods industry

  • You are curious about consumers, industry, and a broad range of science and technologies.

  • You are bold and decisive. You are comfortable expressing conflicting opinions, have a bias for action, and embrace failing forward.

  • You take initiative to learn and continuously grow your skill sets and build up the people around you.

  • You love a challenge. You complete complex projects quickly and adeptly with your understanding of the business priorities.  You act with appropriate urgency to various market events and trends that require a quick turnaround in plans and strategy

  • You are confident and competent. You are diplomatic, professional and exercise great judgment in developing and maintaining excellent business relationships within the business
